KYLIN EXPERIENCE
Oh
what a lucky, lucky break! Mayur Vihar, eating out will never be the same for
you anymore! All you food lovers of Mayur Vihar, Vaishali, Vasundhra, Anand
Vihar and even Noida…here is the answer to your prayers – the inimitable Kylin
Experience has opened its delightful doors to you courtesy Holiday Inn.
Situated very comfortably from all these places, Kylin is soon becoming the
answer to this area’s need for a nice casual dining place.
I
will get to the food in a bit, let me first gush about the interiors. Okay,
well, not gush; my critique should be as elegant and understated as the
interiors. They are calm, warm and inviting. Just how it should be and very
befitting for a mellow pan-asian experience for the taste buds. The gentle,
softly playing music, courteous service all add to the relaxed ambience.

Interiors |
As
you enter, the warm lighting invites and guides you into the tastefully done up
bar. It is quite well stocked with the finest liquors and mixers and quite a
skilled mixologist tending to it. We kicked off our lunch with fabulous
saketinis and a fine red was to accompany our meal. As we walked on to our
waiting table, we met the very affable Head Chef, Pascal Tamang. And what a
pleasure this was going to be, experiencing the knowledgeable company of the
masterful chef, his guidance on the dishes to try, the perfect combinations and
accompaniments to a particular dish, all enriched our dining experience. Chef
Tamang has trained under great culinary masters and honed his skills in Chinese
and Thai cuisine. He is one for pushing boundaries, and innovates constantly
with his enthusiastic team.

Sushi |
Our
tour into gastronomic heaven kicked off with their interactive Sushi counter.
Yes, Sushi is an acquired taste and oh how have I acquired it! I could probably
eat Sushi all three meals of the day. Needless to say, this is always my
strongest area of critique in any pan-asian restaurant I try. We tried the
cucumber, salmon and prawn traditional maki and the tuna nigiri. Divine –
simply divine. Kylin does some special Sushi too, and I strongly recommend you
try the Asparagus Tempura Roll. Chef Tamang was also kind enough to do a
special one with caviar for us! The salty burst in the mouth is incomparable,
definitely worth a special request.
|
Dimsums |
While
I would have been content ordering platters after platters of just Sushi, I
couldn’t have given the special Kylin Experience dimsums a miss. So Chef Tamang
did the honours personally for us here too. We sampled a wide variety – Mushroom
and Bokchoy crystal, Chicken Corriander crystal, Prawn Sesame and Spring Onion
Siew Mai and Also Spicy Seafood Dumplings in Chilli Sauce. All of them very
flavourful and rather wholesomely satisfying. We also ordered the Chicken Lettuce
Wraps, another Kylin special, on the express request of one of our ‘health food
loving’ members. Brilliant they were! Must try everyone. And they would go best
with the Beijing Clear Soup.

Teppenyaki Counter |
An
then my eyes travelled to the live Teppanyaki Grill. With the very experienced
Chef Pradeep at the helm of affairs there, this was a guaranteed awesome
experience for the taste buds. We wanted to sample more Japanese flavours here,
so we went with Sautéed Udon Noodles with vegetables, Salmon Teriyaki, Teppan
Special Sticky Fried Rice and to add in an Oriental flavor, we ordered the
Chicken with Water Chestnut. Each and every mouthful was feast for the senses.
Chef Pradeep kept the conversation flowing, telling us what to expect, what to
savour and take notice. An enlightening experience indeed. His final
preparation of crisp green asparagus with mildly flavoured butter was just the
right thing as palette cleanser.
Its
surprising really, we had eaten quite a lot as numbers go, but the feeling was
light and ‘appetised’ even after this! So yes, it was onwards to the mains.
Keeping it simple, Chef Tamang advised the Thai green curry, wok Tossed Exotic
Mushrooms to go with steamed rice. A delight as we had already come to expect.

Desserts |
For
desserts, you will be doing yourself great wrong if you don’t try the
absolutely amazing basil ice cream and star anise ice cream. These are flavours
that will stay with you forever. We had a couple of fried ice cream spring
rolls and also the yummy date rolls. What was truly interesting, was the very
fragrant, spice dominated Chocolate Mah-jong. Don’t think
I have ever tried anything like it. It makes you wonder, savour, get truly
addicted and leaves you hankering for more.
Ah
what a wonderfully satisfying meal, with a vast array polished off! And to top
it all, we left with smiles and floating on air! This was flavours, this was
healthy, this was truly a beautiful Kylin Experience. Our felicitations to Chef
Tamang and his team, and a big thank you from the core of our happily fed
souls!
