Gaylord-Revisiting
the old world charm
An iconic restaurant which is almost a
landmark destination for foodies in Mumbai, Gaylord indeed has stood the test
of time and retains its old world charm. The staff is warm and attentive and
when we decided to try their specials, the manager Rahul suggested us some of
their all-time favourite hits from the menu.
We started the meal with the Hawaiian chicken salad- rich and creamy
with tomato, pineapple, lettuce, capsicum and grated boiled egg garnish and
walnuts to add the crunch, despite the abundance of dressing in it. My 7 year
old relished the Lahori fish tikka which according to him was truly melting in
the mouth, unlike most places which put an over load of mustard on the fish, it
was subtle with a mix of achaari masala. The pepper chicken was more like
chilly chicken, but the garnish of ginger strips gave it a bit of a twist.
As for the main course, as the ubiquitous
butter chicken was highly recommended we went in for that, promising the taste
of the typical Dilli-style rich and creamy style of the universal favourite
dish. Although being a hard core Delhite myself just felt the gravy lacked the
thick texture as well as the sweetness, which we have grown up eating in the
capital city. The mutton bhuna gosht was well cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed
the succulent pieces of mutton. The Pindi Chana was light, not oily at all,
enjoyed the masalas but the tang was amiss, it could do better with some more
chatpata seasoning. The Dal tadka was regular, well cooked and comforting as it
should be, accompanied by Tandoori rotis. All in all a good and satisfying meal
with great service in a warm ambience.
For
Christmas until New Year, Gaylord has
launched a special menu of authentic Christmas dishes from all over the world
ranging from X’Mas Medley, Chicken Marina, Baked Aubergines, Dum Gosht Biryani,
Shakarkandi Kebab, Sarson da Saag, Beer Batter Prawns to a variety of Hors
d’oeuvres. If one is in the mood to experiment, you can also try the Absolute
Fantasy, Strawberry Margarita, Kiwi Mojito and of course specials from their
bakeshop which was a European Bistro charm. These specials will be available
from the 24th 2015 till the 3rd January, 2016.
