One more
cafe adds to the Delhi circuit, yes the Jugaad Cafe. But this is a little
different than others, it's made up in a jugaadu way. JUGAAD means to set up
something with whatever things or sources possible, using anything which can
probably fit into. The word Jugaad is
synonymous to the everyday lingo of the youth in the capital, a term that has
become so popular that it found its place in the presentation of
Travis Kalanick, Founder - UBER at the recently concluded Start Up India
Conference 2016.
The Jugaad Café & Bar as the name suggests
has been designed with everyday waste. The
property that dons the hat of a cafe cum co-working space in the
morning/afternoon serves good tea and coffee with a
special Jugaad menu. In the coming few days, they will be coming up
with charging points on all the tables and a printer & desktop one at the
third floor, it attracts all the creative geniuses and enthu cutlets of
the capital who are looking to work in a conducive environment with a bit of
character around them. Tune into the evening hours, and the place transforms
itself into a restro-bar churning out some foot tapping numbers and
chartbusters over exotic dishes from the kitchens around the world. According
to the owners Aryan Singh and Vani Vats, there’s a Jugaad for
everyone out here!
The same funda is used here; bottles of wine and beer are used in the decor
very nicely. Even the crowns of the beer bottles are used to enhance the table
decor.Wall clock and roof lights are done up with bottles.
The most quirky thing which I found was the use of transparent glass on level 1
on the floor. It is highly adventurous. Also the use of WC's in the Smoking
area on the 2nd level is hilarious.
They are
already creating ripples and waves in the market but a major boost up will come
only after they get the liquor license which is expected by the end of
February. The fact that five distinct chefs have led
their expertise in curating the menu gives a very holistic feel yet maintaining
its quirkiness. From Chef Pranay Kumar to Continental; Chef Mohinder Kohli to
Chinese; Chef Shravan Choudhary to Indian , there’s a delectable Jugaad for
almost all cuisines.
We tried their food, starting with the Masala chana w
served in small bucket portions and liked it a lot. They serve a Tangy mocktail
which has tamarind in it (must try). I liked the Basa fish balls served over the shot glasses, very healthy as it
was just not fried. The Lamb potli or the money bags were really good .Thai curry and the Mongolian
chicken are also done well.
Overall a
quirky and peppy setup for attracting people from all age groups. This café will
make Defence Colony market a fresh place to be.
