Old Fashioned Charm & Goodness: Wolfgang
& Company
Delhi's hep and happening
Connaught Place witnesses the opening of 2-3 restaurants on a daily basis. With
most of them being cafes or serving almost the same food, only a few make the
cut and can actually be considered as a feather in the cap. Wolfgang &
Company- an old fashioned kind of rustic themed British Bar is that valuable
addition to the food and party scene of Connaught Place. Owned by Mr. Kuldeep
and run under the guidance of Executive Chef Prahlad, everything about this
place, from its ambience to its food menu to its drinks menu is buzz-worthy.
As we visited this place for
an exclusive preview showcase, a limited menu was presented to introduce the
best of their produce and oh my god, what a delight it was.
We started off with a very
warm welcome and three signature shots- a green coloured mango based
tangy-sweet shooter, a fizzy kokum shooter and a bright yellow jalapeno
shooter. My personal favorite was the green mango shooter, it was very
refreshing and smooth for the palate. Next what we ordered was hands down the
most innovative drink you will ever see- The Chocolate Man, a creatively
designed skull shaped glass graced with a combination of whiskey, cream and
chocolate, topped with white and dark chocolate flakes and roasted
marshmallows. The first though that crosses your mind when you see it is how the
hell did they conceptualize this, it was creative, edgy and toxic all at the
same time. Next we tried a Wild Mushroom Soup, a creamy-rich bowl of soup with
an earthy flavour of shitake mushrooms, while savouring it; I had already
planned to visit this place in the winters just for this hearty soup.
Next we tried a very
soul-satisfying Arugula Apple Celery Salad, peppery fresh arugula, crunchy bite
size apple chunks, cherry tomatoes and walnuts tossed in a light dressing and
topped with parmesan cheese shavings. I am personally not a fan of salads but I
really appreciated this one for its simple flavours. Then we binged on Italian
Parma Ham & Cheese Roll- a cheese oozing ham roll with a crispy asparagus,
it was really delectable and comforting. And now to make way for the star of
the night, the impeccable Mushroom Galauti- served atop discs of ulte tawa ka
parantha, the galautis were so delicate and soft that they just dissolved in
the mouth. Once you taste these it will take you a moment to realize and
believe that these are made of mushrooms, a must must have.
For the main course we tried
the Hyderabadi Risotto- a vegetarian dish, it is an experiment of flavours that
is worth a shot. Arborio rice cooked with a South-Indian twist of tomatoes,
curry leaves, mustard seeds and dried red chillies. It has a very hearty
curried taste to it and made for a satisfying main course dish.
Being the one with a sweet tooth,
I tried both the Tiramisu and Chocolate Coconut Gateau. The tiramisu was very
light and flavouful, the after taste was that of rum and it was served in a
tall martini glass. Chocolate Coconut Gateau was my pick from the desserts and
was a moist, indulgent piece of chocolate combined with fresh coconut- couldn't
stop eating it.
This new entrant is worth
your money and time when you are in a mood to try something that is genuinely
different when it comes to food and drinks. A perfect place to enjoy sport's
screening or spend a delightful evening in the company of some hearty
food. A must visit in every sense!
