AMRELI - NEW MENU ( BY CHEF SABY)
Located in the greenest surroundings, one of the most
security laden roads of Delhi, Sardar Patel Marg is the Hotel Diplomat. It is a
reflection of contemporary sophistication. Amreli , as beautiful as the
parent itself marks luxury and uber chic interiors with chess board flooring and
contemporary art works on walls. The furniture is eclectic and the mismatched
chairs make it all the more worthwhile.
The whole place has a anything goes
kind of feel with a semi formal or I must say a casual style dining. It is a
cross between an up market London diner and a classic bistro with alfresco area
and sophisticated environment over looking lush greenery. The alfresco area is
a great option for outdoor dining and is a quiet courtyard with lush green and
perky seating to enhance the ambience and the experience. Far enough from the
cacophony of the city but still close enough to people-watch.
The menu has been created by Chef Saby (Sabyasachi Gorai)
and used to be too eclectic with continental, American, Italian food sitting
side by side with a great Indian stuff from both North as well as coastal India.
But now after the Menu has been revamped everything has been taken of the menu
except Indian (coastal and north) and Pan Asian has been added to the menu. For
me it was a little disappointing as I loved their Italian as well as Pattiserie
fare.
Anyways, we started with the Oriental fare and ordered a
few Dimsums both veg and non veg. The Tofu and Bak choy stuffed Dimsums were
nice and light and the Thai lamb chilli garlic Dimsums were also very good. I
tried the Chicken Manchow Soup which was made very well with all the authenticity
it could have been.

The Teriyaki chicken skewers were just perfect and all
the flavor of the grill and teriyaki sauce. We also ordered from the Indian
small plates section as it seemed very interesting. The Egg Appam and the Keema Anda fry are
really a must order items. All items have their virtues, like the egg appam
also called hoppers and beloved food stuff in the spice- crazy Sri Lanka; this
is spicy yet altogether docile. The Anda Keema Pav is an all time favourite,
mutton mince cooked in fragrant spices with fried eggs on top with a Pav bun.
Heaven on earth, really. I ordered a tasting platter with 2-3 pieces of Malai
chicken tikkas and Malai fish tikka, Chunky seekh etc. I must tell you each
item was perfectly marinated and perfectly grilled in the tandoor.

For the mains, I ordered a small portion of Sole Meen
Moilee and a Shikari murg on Chefs recommendation. I loved the thin curry of meen moilee with the
absorbent Appams and also the Shikari murg , a very simple and rustic
preparation just like we cook at home.
Coming to the Desserts, the only dessert available was
the Death by Chocolate made with the best ingredients though it’s outsourced,
yet was sinfully good.
